What You Need to Know About Radon Testing

Keep reading to learn the key information you need to know about radon testing.

  • What Is Radon? – Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas known to cause lung cancer. This gas is created by the breakdown of natural deposits of uranium in rock and soil, and it can enter your home and contaminate the air supply. We encourage you to schedule radon testing before buying any new home or business, and to repeat the tests every two years.
  • How Does Radon Testing Work? – There are multiple methods of radon testing, each with their own pros and cons. One of the most reliable and widely used methods is charcoal disc scintillation. In this method, we use an activated charcoal filter to absorb radon from the air. The filter is then analyzed in a lab to measure how much radon, if any, is present.
  • Why Is Radon Testing Important? – As we mentioned above, radon gas is a known cause of lung cancer. In fact, it is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. We strongly encourage you to have your property regularly tested for radon in order to protect your health. Our team will alert you right away if radon exceeds safe levels, and we’ll advise you on the next steps to take to remove this hazardous gas from your air supply.
